15/ The afternoon hearing made Barr look worse and worse. Hard to summarize all his evasions. Said he couldn't recall things he clearly should have. Admitted he hadn't read the underlying evidence but reached his [predetermined] conclusion anyway.
— Jill Wine-Banks (@JillWineBanks) May 1, 2019
14/ @KamalaHarris just established that neither Barr or his staff read the underlying evidence and yet he decided that evidence wasn't sufficient. WOW!! Good for her. Also, got Barr to refuse to say he'd consult DOJ ethics re recusing from pending cases bec of bias he's shown.
— Jill Wine-Banks (@JillWineBanks) May 1, 2019
13/ @maziehirono said "You lied" to Barr.
— Jill Wine-Banks (@JillWineBanks) May 1, 2019
Also @SenBlumenthal caught Barr in evading answer about whether he spoke to 45 about any investigations. Barr finally said I don't recall and I didn't have any substantive conversations but may have mentioned the name of one investigation.

12/ @SenBlumenthal points out conflict between Mueller conclusion and Barr's testimony re obstruction of Mueller investigation and other investigations spun off from Russia investigation.
— Jill Wine-Banks (@JillWineBanks) May 1, 2019
11/ @ChrisCoons also challenges AG continuing to supervise cases given his record. Says Senate must hear #Mueller and #McGahn and that it's clear why Mueller thought Barr had misrepresented his conclusions.
— Jill Wine-Banks (@JillWineBanks) May 1, 2019
10/ @ChrisCoons was masterful in his questioning and concluding that Barr concealed obvious obstruction proof and forced him to admit that when foreign intelligence offers dirt on opponent, campaign must report it to FBI.
— Jill Wine-Banks (@JillWineBanks) May 1, 2019
9/ Barr claims he sees nothing "pejorative" about his use of word "spying."
— Jill Wine-Banks (@JillWineBanks) May 1, 2019
Recessed for 1 hour.
8/ Also @SenWhitehouse gets Barr to agree to turn over attachments referenced in Mueller letter. Those are the executive summaries Mueller wanted public to see and that were partially redacted in the released #MuellerReport Barr released.
— Jill Wine-Banks (@JillWineBanks) May 1, 2019
7/ @SenWhitehouse gets Barr to admit anonymous campaign funding is a way that foreign interference in our elections could take place. Let's get rid of #CitizensUnited.
— Jill Wine-Banks (@JillWineBanks) May 1, 2019
6/ Barr just claimed executive privilege not waived for McGahn, but it was PLUS the conversation was about a criminal act and therefore not protected by privilege. McGahn should testify immediately. He is a private citizen and not subject to order not to testify from 45.
— Jill Wine-Banks (@JillWineBanks) May 1, 2019
5/ @BWilliams interrupted coverage to point out what @NicolleDWallace correctly said were lies by Barr.
— Jill Wine-Banks (@JillWineBanks) May 1, 2019
4/ The time limit on questioning interferes with getting facts and truth.
— Jill Wine-Banks (@JillWineBanks) May 1, 2019
@SenatorDurbin is now confronting Barr on his misrepresentations.
3/ #Barr repeats he was surprised that #Mueller left it to him/Barr to decide if Trump obstructed justice despite #MuellerReport making it clear Mueller was leaving it to Congress and post-presidency prosecutor to take action bec OLC barred indicting now despite obvious evidence
— Jill Wine-Banks (@JillWineBanks) May 1, 2019
2/ Also praises himself for doing little redaction while admitting his unredacted version for Cong didn't include grand jury material they are entitled to under exception to 6e (preliminary to a judicial proceeeding).
— Jill Wine-Banks (@JillWineBanks) May 1, 2019
Keep following for more as hearing continues...
1/Now hearing #Barr who is blaming Mueller for delay in release bec he didn't id all 6e material and praises 45 for not invoking executive privilege. Note from me: criminal conversations are not covered by EP.
